The Arkansas INBRE Developmental Research Project Program (DRPP) is issuing a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) that would support faculty in the preparation of a manuscript for publication. The goal of this opportunity is to provide faculty protected time to write and submit a peer-reviewed manuscript. For additional questions, please free to contact Dr. Jerry Ware (jware@uams.edu).
Key points for the SMS mechanism:
- The funding period would be June 1, 2026, through July 31, 2026
- Allowable expenses would include up to one-month salary plus fringe benefits for the faculty member
- Publication costs can be covered following acceptance of a manuscript and an invoice from the PUI to UAMS
- Eligible applicants must be a faculty member with an appointment at a primarily undergraduate institution in the Arkansas INBRE network. Faculty with appointments at either UAMS or UAF are not eligible. INBRE Research Development Grant awardees and current Summer Research Grant awardees are not eligible.
- The focus of the publication would have to be in an area related to human health and preference will be given to manuscripts including undergraduate students as co-authors
- Non-allowable expenses include supplies, equipment, student stipends and travel
- By accepting the award, the faculty member would commit to submitting a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal

- Allowable costs: Up to 1-month Summer Salary Support at the PUI (Salary and Fringe benefits)
- Publication costs: Can be covered at a later date with acceptance of the manuscript
Part 3 – Please address the following 3 topics in 2 pages or less:
- Work to date: In brief, describe the work you have completed thus far on the manuscript. This can be data collected, written sections, student involvement, completed figures, etc.
- Timeline: Describe what needs to be completed. For example, provide a timeline with weekly goals (e.g. week 1 data analysis; week 2 creating figures and tables; week 3 writing methods section, etc.).
- Journal choice: Include the name of potential journal(s) for submission.
- Selection: Priority for an award will be given to applications where writing is the next step and not where additional experiments are required.
The completed application must be emailed to the INBRE office by March 9, 5 PM CST. All proposals must be submitted by the signing official of PL’s institution. Completed applications should be sent via email as a single PDF file to INBREApplication@uams.edu. Proposals submitted directly by faculty will not be accepted.
Expectations:
- You will participate in Zoom meetings with INBRE staff to discuss progress as you move forward on writing and submission.
- Submission to a peer-reviewed journal on or before August 31, 2026.
- Appropriate citing of the Arkansas INBRE Award (5P20 GM103429) in the manuscript.
