SUMMER MANUSCRIPT SUPPORT (SMS)
No active FOA at this time.
The Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) recognizes the unprecedented challenges the past year has brought to our PUI faculty. Therefore, the Arkansas INBRE Developmental Research Project Program (DRPP) is issuing a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) that would support faculty in the preparation of a manuscript for publication. The goal of this opportunity is to provide faculty protected time to write and submit a peer-reviewed manuscript.
Key points for the SMS mechanism:
- The funding period would be June 1, 2023 through July 31, 2023
- Allowable expenses would include up to one-month salary plus fringe benefits for the faculty member
- Publication costs can be covered following acceptance of a manuscript and an invoice from the PUI to UAMS
- Eligible applicants must be a faculty member with an appointment at a primarily undergraduate institution in the Arkansas INBRE network. Faculty with appointments at either UAMS or UAF are not eligible. INBRE Research and Development awardees and current Summer Research awardees are not eligible
- The focus of the publication would have to be in an area related to human health and preference will be given to manuscripts including undergraduate students as co-authors
- Non allowable expenses include supplies, equipment, student stipends and travel
- By accepting the award, the faculty member would commit to submitting a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
IMPORTANT: A simple email note of Intent to Apply should be sent to the Arkansas
INBRE INBREApplication@uams.edu, no later than March 28th (5 pm CST).
Final applications are due by 5:00 PM, April 10, 2023 and should be emailed by your ISO to INBREApplication@uams.edu.

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH GRANTS
Applications due by COB October 25, 2023
The Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) invites faculty with research interests in the biomedical sciences at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) to submit an application to the Arkansas INBRE Developmental Research Project Program.
This FOA is directed to PUI faculty with an intent to foster synergistic and collaborative approaches between PUI faculty from different institutions, or between PUI faculty and faculty at either of the two Arkansas INBRE lead institutions, the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville or the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The intent is to strengthen the Arkansas network of biomedical research to the benefit of both faculty and students in the state. Similar in format to Multiple Principal Investigator (MPI) proposals solicited by the NIH, the Collaborative Research Grant (CRG) offers PUI faculty an opportunity to establish collaborative arrangements to strengthen their research by leveraging facilities and or expertise not readily available within the faculty member’s own laboratory. In addition, an opportunity to expose undergraduate students to other laboratories offers an added enrichment to the student’s research experience.
CRG Grants can vary in length and must include undergraduate student involvement at the PUI site(s). Up to $40,000 in direct costs can be requested but a minimum of 60% of the funds should be for research at a PUI. If the CRG involves Project Leaders from 2 different PUIs, the funds can be split as deemed appropriate for each PL. If the CRG involves a Project Leader from a PUI and a Project Leader from a lead institution, funds cannot be used for salary support of the Project Leader at the lead institution. Funds to the lead institution (up to 40% of the total budget) can be used for technician time, animal costs, reagent costs, or any research-associated cost that is not faculty salary support. A single PUI Project Leader must be designated the “contact” Project Leader (PL1) and the submission of the entire proposal will be from PL1’s institution.
Funding Period: September 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025
Student Participation: Mandatory at the PUIs
Maximum Request: $40,000 in direct costs
Indirect costs (F&A) are in addition to the allowable direct costs of $40,000.
All applications are to use the NIH 398 Form pages and instructions found at the following web site. http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/phs398.html
Please read the FOA for additional details pertaining to the application.
Completed applications (forms, narrative, references, support letters, IRB/IACUC approvals, etc.) should be sent via e-mail as a single PDF file from your institutional signing official to INBREApplication@uams.edu.
Proposals submitted directly by faculty will not be accepted.
