When I apply to the INBRE Program, do I have to submit an “official transcript” or will an unofficial transcript be accepted?
INBRE only accepts “official transcripts.” If you are not able to submit an official transcript, your application will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
When will my application packet be considered complete?
A complete application packet includes: (1) a completed application form, (2) a copy of your official transcript, and (3) two signed letters of recommendation. All required items must be received by February 3, 2025 for you to be considered as an applicant to the INBRE Summer Research Program.
Can my transcript be sent electronically?

If I am a UAF student and I apply to the INBRE Program, can I do my research on the UAF campus?
UAF students who are accepted into the program MUST do their research on the UAMS campus.
Do I need to contact and follow up with the faculty who I’ve asked to write my letter of recommendation or does the INBRE staff contact them?
Each student is responsible for requesting letters from their professors for the recommendation letters. We do not contact faculty on your behalf. Letters should be a signed PDF and sent to Diane McKinstry via email or mailed to:

Can I submit a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume with my application?
Although it is not required, you can submit a CV or resume.
When will I be notified of acceptance into the program?
Everyone who has submitted a complete application packet will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance in March.
Can I contact the mentor of my choice before my acceptance?
Although we do not discourage it, it would be better to contact the mentor once you’ve been accepted into the program.
If I am accepted into the program, can I take a summer class or work a part-time job while participating in the program?
Due to the intensity of the summer program, taking summer classes and/or working a job while participating in the program is not allowed.
Eligibility
If I graduate the year I apply to the summer program, am I still eligible to apply?
The Arkansas INBRE Summer Research Program is an undergraduate student program. Therefore, we do not suggest you apply if you will graduate or are scheduled to graduate before the start of the program.
If I attend a college out of state, am I still eligible to apply to the program?
All applicants must have an Arkansas tie to be considered as an applicant. This means you must either currently live or have lived in Arkansas or are currently attending an Arkansas college or university.
I am an international student, am I eligible to apply?
Yes, INBRE accepts international students who are currently attending an Arkansas university or college.
Compensation
How much is the stipend for the Arkansas INBRE program?
The 2025 INBRE Summer Research Program will be a 9-week program, and the stipend will be $7,200.
When will I get paid?
Payments are issued throughout the program. The final check will be issued after the end of the program and all of the requirements have been met.
Will I receive a W-2 at the end of the year?
Students will not receive a W-2. However, UAF can provide a letter regarding the stipend received. Students should consult a tax advisor regarding the need to file a tax return.
Housing
What are the housing accommodations?
Although limited, campus housing is available on the UAMS and UAF campuses. The cost per room varies on the two campuses. Students will be responsible for all living costs while participating in the program.
Can I make my living arrangements?
Students are allowed to make their living arrangements.
Do I have to stay in the dorm on the campus where I will be working?
No, you do not have to stay on campus.
Do I have to pay for rent?
Students are responsible for ALL living expenses, including deposit, rent, food, etc.
Can I have a private room in the dorm?
Housing is limited; therefore, all summer students on the UAMS campus must share a room.
UAF housing will consist of a single bedroom with a bathroom shared by four people.
The housing director will make room assignments on each campus. More information regarding campus housing will be provided once accepted into the program.
Parking
Can I commute to the campus where I will be working?
Yes, commuting is an option.
Is parking available?
Parking is available on both campuses. For those on the UAMS campus, free parking is available at Ray Winter, War Memorial, and Rick’s Armory. For students on the UAF campus, more information will be provided once accepted into the program.

Program
Will I get to work on the campus of my choice?
We make every effort to match students with a mentor who will provide a good summer research experience on the campus of their choice.
Do you have to be vaccinated to participate in the program?
Yes, it will be required for everyone working on the UAMS and UAF campuses to be fully vaccinated. A full list of vaccination requirements will be provided once you’ve been accepted into the program.
What are the expectations of the program?
- Students will spend a minimum of 40 hours per week working on their projects and are required to participate in all weekly workshops and program activities.
- Students are required to present their research during a weekly workshop (10-minute presentation, 5 minutes for questions) near the end of the program.
- Students are required to prepare a halfway and final paper in journal format.
- Students are required to give an oral or a poster presentation at the end of the program at the Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Will I be allowed to take a vacation during my research experience?
Please keep in mind, that this is a summer program, and you will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Scheduling vacation during the program could result in forfeiture of your award.
