Meet the Researcher
This week we highlight one of our 2024 Summer Students Dallas Fuller from Harding University who researched at UAMS this summer. “This is my second time with the INBRE summer program. The variety [of techniques] I’ve gotten to learn has really been impactful to me. I plan to go to Pharmacy School at UAMS and this has really helped my decision to come here.” More students

Out and About thanks to Arkansas INBRE Travel Awards
Recently, several Arkansas INBRE participants from Ouachita Baptist University presented their work at different locations thanks to AR INBRE Travel Awards awarded to Dr. Sharon Hamilton. Said Hamilton, “The first two photos below are of Elisa Knight and Alex Treadway presenting their research at the 2024 Spring National American Chemical Society meeting in New Orleans in March. The last photo is of Zach McClain presenting his research at the 2024 Arkansas Academy of Sciences meeting in Fort Smith in April. … Thank you for all INBRE does to support research in Arkansas!” (Not shown is Alex Browning who also presented at ACS in March.)
Tips for Writing Grant Applications
NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Branch Chief Dr. Wendy Weber presented five recommendations for writing grants in a recent NCCIH Research Blog.
- Identify your research question.
- Develop a strong set of specific aims.
- Find the right Institute or Center and program official.
- Share your specific aims with a program official to identify the best funding opportunity.
- Prepare your full application and make sure it is complete and responsive.
NIGMS new career miniseries: How Can I Become a Biomedical Scientist? Do you love learning about science but aren’t sure how to turn it into a career? Or maybe you already know that you want to be a scientist but you’re wondering what steps it takes? If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place!
For most people, the path to becoming a scientist starts in the classroom, where you might be introduced to topics like biology, chemistry, and physics. After high school, some science-loving students choose to follow a path to becoming a doctor or a teacher, but those are just two of the many biomedical scientific careers available.
Regardless of what field you’re interested in, NIGMS presents a rough guide to the different levels of training that scientists may have in the first installment of this new career-focused miniseries. Read the article
