Faculty applying for a mentored research grant should contact a potential mentor at one of the lead institutions, with a research area of common interest. The prospective team (faculty and mentor) will then jointly prepare a written proposal. Inclusion of women and minority participants is highly encouraged.  The current INBRE FOAs can be found here.

Faculty please note that these lists of mentors is not exclusive.  There are many more potential mentors on the UAF and UAMS campuses.  You may contact potential mentors yourself or seek assistance from Jerry Ware  or Tom Kelly.

The student mentored summer research program is open to all undergraduate STEM majors. The program offers two tracks, one for the science majors (e.g., biology & chemistry) who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research. A second track designed specifically for math and computer science majors is available for students who are interested in learning more about how to apply their math and computer skills in the area of biomedical research.

Undergraduate students interested in applying for either of these summer fellowships are asked to identify three potential research areas/mentors from the list of mentors. Students who are enrolled at one of the lead institutions may apply for a fellowship at a campus other than their home campus. Every effort is made to match students to one of the three research areas identified in their application. However, there are times when this is not possible, and the Program Coordinator will have to assign a mentor within the same research area as identified in the student’s application.
