Professional Research Opportunity (PRO) Summer Program
The Professional Research Opportunity (PRO) Summer Program is a collaboration with the Arkansas INBRE and the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at UAMS. This 10-week program is designed to expose undergraduate students to an alternative career path as a research technologist through participation in the daily operations of either a research laboratory or a Core Facility. The director of this program, Dr. Jesús Delgado-Calle, Ph.D., will work closely with faculty and students to identify a mentor for each participant in the PRO Summer Program. Bench-to-Bedside Workshops/Translational Research Workshops
Do you have an interest in biomedical research? Have you ever thought about how researchers study human diseases? This workshop is designed to help students to better understand the role of translational research (bench-to-bedside) in contributing to the development of evidence-based treatments for a specific disease. The workshop includes clinical facility, research scientists and graduate students. Students have an opportunity to interact with both clinician scientists and research scientists to understand their individual role in the development of new therapeutic treatments. The day-long workshop includes an interactive presentation, and a rotation of small group roundtable discussions. The workshop concludes with a panel discussion in which the students are encouraged to ask the scientists a wide array of questions. This workshop is typically scheduled the in May. Registration has not yet opened.
Goals of the INBRE Outreach Core:
- To increase the number of college and university faculty in Arkansas with active funded research programs in biomedical science.
- To increase the number of undergraduate students in Arkansas who pursue careers in biomedical science.
The goals of the Outreach Core are to be achieved through support of collaborative research projects supervised by mentors with research interests in common with undergraduate faculty and students. Mentors in the Arkansas INBRE are researchers at one of the lead AR INBRE institutions, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville or University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. A current list of available mentors can be found here.
