The workshop will help students understand the role of research in contributing to the development of evidence based methods for prevention, diagnosis and treatments for cancer.
Did you know that in 2024 there were an estimated 6,360 deaths due to cancer in Arkansas? Arkansas is ranked 45th among all states for the highest lung cancer mortality and has a higher mortality rate of other cancers as well, including colorectal.
Are you curious to know about how researchers study cancer?
Would you like to know how basic cancer research can lead to new therapeutic agents to cure cancer?
If so, we invite you to participate in a one-day workshop hosted by Arkansas INBRE at the
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
- Oncologists will describe previous approaches to cancer treatment and how advances in research have impacted patient outcomes.
- Scientists and their trainees will provide a sampling of different aspects of cancer research.
- Leadership panel discussion on preparing for graduate school and opportunities to study cancer biology.
Target Audience: Undergraduate students attending College/University in Arkansas and Arkansas residents attending an out-of-state college/university.
The workshop is limited to 30 student participants. The event will take place in the UAMS Library E2 8101A, 8th floor Education II building.
